Wendy Kroger Park

Wendy Kroger Park is my neighborhood park. It is just four blocks from my house, well within a 10 minute walk. The park is about seven acres and includes a wide mix of amenities for its size: an Oregon white oak woodland, a segment of Pringle Creek, a riparian area, an upland meadow, a large open lawn, some play equipment, a basketball court, walking paths, ornamental beds, and an undeveloped area. Wendy Kroger is one of 48 neighborhood parks in Salem.

Good, But Could Be Better
I'm working to improve Wendy Kroger Park. The park has a lot of promise but...the riparian area is overrun with invasive plants, the trails are not maintained, the entry beds are full of weeds, the playground is not shaded, and the park was never fully developed. The City has no management plan for the park.
Salem, unfortunately, has limited resources to maintain its 48 neighborhood parks. That's why I'm organizing a 'Friends of Wendy Kroger Park.' My hope is that together, we can improve the park's quality and work with the City to make the natural areas better and more accessible. Wendy Kroger is a fine park, but it could be so much better.
